The very first Heritage -Grand award recipient, Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya has rolled out loads of activities for the month of April starting with the “Nekath Pathraya” being handed over by the oldest employee, Mr. Weerasinghe on the 01st April at 04.30 pm to the General Manager Mr. Suresh Abbas.
A spokesman for the hotel stated that the hotel was never closed even during the lock down, but they kept upgrading it facilities and services with continuous in-house training of staff.
The gardens around the hotel, will be in full bloom ready for the annual Flower show 2023.
Jazz band, Hania and Venus and Collective will perform at the Tea Lounge on the 07thand 08th from 03.30 pm – 06.30 serving up a carvery of meats along with the Easter Sunday lunch at the Barnes Hall. There will be an Easter egg hunt and many other activities, such as movie nights, popcorn served free, craft making etc. planned for kids both in the indoor and outdoor play areas.
At the Piano Lounge on 9th (Sunday), from 06.00 pm -07.00pm will be a Malt evening with a variety of cocktails and a pianist in attendance. It is noteworthy to mention that the Piano lounge is where all the parties took place, particularly when the public bar was full during the days of the British Raj
The picturesque lower garden of the Hotel will have a hype of activities with a Beer kiosk during the entire month for those who love to chill with a mug of their favourtie brew.
From 12th to 16th April Rajitha and Misty will rock the nights at the Barnes Hall with a repertoire of music from the 80’s and 90’s. Friday ,14th traditional Bak Maha Asiriya and the Gamey Kada Mandiya will be take place at the Governors Lawn and from 01.00pm to 03.00pm authentic Sri Lankan dishes will be served in the garden by girls dressed in traditional attire
From 03.00- 05.00pm observance of rituals with the dawning of the Sinhala and Tamil new year will take place.The day after the New Year, 15th April and the 16th a percussion band will perform at the front lawn.
To coincide with Ramadhan from 22nd to 27th April, the chefs at the authentic Grand Indian restaurant have planned a Biriyani Sawan promotion which serves 06 guests. Suhur and Ifthar will be served to their guests of Muslim faith during the holy month of Ramadhan
