Emperor’s Wok, Hilton Colombo’s fine-dining destination renowned for its authentic Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine, ushered in the Year of the Snake with a traditional Yee Sang tossing ceremony led by the Chinese Head Chef, Ming. This symbolic ritual, deeply rooted in Chinese culture, represents growth, prosperity, and abundance, with the act of tossing Yee Sang signifying the elevation of good fortune in the year ahead.
The Yee Sang ceremony features a vibrant array of ingredients, each carrying a special meaning for the new year. Raw fish symbolizes abundance and prosperity, while shredded vegetables represent vitality and growth. Crushed peanuts signify wealth and treasure in every home, and sesame seeds convey wishes of peace and safety within families. Crispy crackers (Pok Chui) embody a prosperous year filled with joy and laughter, and sweet plum sauce represents the sweetness of life.
