Edelweiss Air Resumes Seasonal Flights to Colombo

Swiss carrier Edelweiss Air has resumed its seasonal flight operations to Sri Lanka for the winter, carrying 221 passengers on its first flight, which landed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on November 1, 2024. The inaugural flight was welcomed in style with a ceremonial water salute, organized by Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Pvt. Limited.

Edelweiss, wholly owned by Swiss International Airlines and a member of the Lufthansa Group, operates direct flights to a range of destinations across Europe, North America, and beyond from its Zurich Airport hub. The airline’s Colombo service, which will continue through May 9, 2025, provides travelers with seamless connections to Zurich and onward flights under the SWISS International and Lufthansa codeshare partnership.

Edelweiss’s Colombo route is operated by the Airbus A340-300, featuring a premium onboard experience across its 314-seat configuration, which includes 27 business class, 76 premium economy, and 211 economy class seats.

Founded in 1995, Edelweiss is named after the Edelweiss flower, a symbol of Switzerland’s heritage and resilience. The airline remains committed to quality and customer satisfaction, establishing itself as a trusted choice for travelers seeking a comfortable and reliable flying experience.

“We are grateful to Swiss International Airlines, operated by Edelweiss, for its remarkable contribution to Sri Lanka’s aviation and tourism industries,” said an official spokesperson. “We warmly welcome Edelweiss back to Sri Lanka and extend our thanks to United Ventures (Pvt) Ltd., the General Sales Agent for Lufthansa Group in Sri Lanka, for their steadfast support and collaboration.”
