Thailand Ends Visa Free Travel for Asian Travelers from December 1st 2024

In a move aimed at enhancing border security and improving immigration protocols, Thailand will end its visa-free travel policy for several Asian countries, including Sri Lanka beginning December 1, 2024.

Citizens from nations that previously enjoyed visa-free access, will now be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to arrival.

The introduction of the ETA system marks a significant shift in Thailand’s immigration policies.

The new ETA requirement will impact travelers from the following Asian countries:

  • Bhutan
  • Brunei
  • China
  • Georgia
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Japan
  • Laos
  • Malaysia
  • Maldives
  • Mongolia
  • Philippines
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Sri Lanka
  • Taiwan
  • Uzbekistan
  • Vietnam
  • Australia

These changes mean that travelers from these countries, who once enjoyed visa-free entry, must now complete the ETA application process before traveling to Thailand.

Thailand’s transition to the ETA system reflects a broader effort to adapt to evolving global security demands while ensuring smooth and secure entry for visitors.
